The zulu community project is based in the Southern Drakensberg mountains and is run all year round. Funds from international donors and grant-making associations make this possible.
Student Volunteers assist on a daily basis with orphanage care, teaching, women’s empowerment and skill development and caring for zulu children. We work with the Pevensey Primary school, local crèches, women’s business development and skills through the Rivercroft Cottage mohair initiative, project participants volunteer at orphanages that operate in the area, and may have the opportunity to assist within a street children initiative in nearby town of Bulwer and surrounds. There are also many opportunities to help with practical work such as building, construction or smallholding activities.
This program is a truly unique opportunity to engage with a local community and become immersed in a sustainable, forward-thinking community development project aimed at addressing poverty and supporting a rural, Zulu, previously disadvantaged village. Student Volunteers make life-long friends, and often retain links with the project, engaging with our community through facebook and receiving updates on project progress long after leaving.
This project is open to all (including volunteers of all ages), but we prefer project participants to have an interest with working with children and to be enthusiastic and open-minded. Discounts are available to student volunteers
